My Hercus 9 Restoration.

You're right about the oil holes. The parts on the tailstock don't really move all that much. An occasional drop of oil now and then will keep it all in good shape. My tailstock looks a bit different, but pretty close. My AR is an early 1971.

Hi, just reading the threads on Sheraton lathes and found this one and your comment re the date of yours. Is there a way to determine approximate dates - I have a 9" AR serial number AR272 and am trying to work out how old it might be.

Are you sure that's the serial number? The Machine Number on mine is 13512V. The Model on the gearbox plate is AR.

Yeah. I missed that. Never heard of a Sheraton. Is it a licensed Southbend, like the Hercus?

from what I have read, they are a copy of the South bend - made in Melbourne.
