I found these caps on Amazon I can get any size needle I need up to 10g

I'm confused Mike, were you asking me what size tips I use or just sharing the link?

I think I mentioned it already but I buy all my luer lock stuff from Howard Electronics, Jensen brand. I believe they are cheaper than your link but not sure about with shipping to HI. I think they sell Jensen on Amazon too now. I've been using the same brand stuff for 15+ yrs & haven't really tried anything else so not sure if other brands are "better". We used Jensen stuff at my old work too when I worked in electronic repair.

I use flat strips of aluminum with tapped holes for quick shortening of screws on the belt sander. Easy to make, cheap, & sacrificial. Sizes 0-80 to 3/8" on one end & M2 to M10 on the other end.

Was down to one left so I made more. I have the hole positions saved so it's easy with the DRO. Power tapped the larger sizes, hand tapped the smaller sizes. Added a couple of more sizes to these new ones & also made a couple out of c-channel to try out.

Also shimed the bandsaw for the tables to square up with the blade. I was too lazy to do it when I made the tables. Didn't take long at all, only took me 3 tries. Thought it was gonna take me much longer which is why I put off doing it. I decided to shim it under the roller/blade guide assy instead of at the tables that way I don't have to worry about loosing the shim. Even though the shim will rarely get accessed I super glued it in place anyway.

So you just find the right sixed whole for the bolt you want to shorten, screw it in the holder then hold up to the sander? Clever. I always find myself doing it freehand holding the bolt to the sander and it being pretty sketchy

Thanks. Yes, that's pretty much what I do. Mostly smaller screws than larger ones but I tapped holes for larger ones anyway. If I feel like making them look nicer or need more precision length I do it on the lathe. But this method is so much quicker & easier.

I too use to hold screws by hand or with pliers. After I started doing it this way no more burnt fingers & no more screws flying into the abyss. :)
 
M18 2-gal Vac Hose Adapter
(another damn I need a 3d printer already project)

I'm happy with my 0880 wet/dry vac (especially for the low HD hack price I paid) but I hate that MW made it with a proprietary hose nozzle size. They say it's 1-1/4" but it doesn't fit any of the 1-1/4" nozzles I have from various manufacturers. The MW is oversized.

So I thought someone has had to have run into this & makes an adapter. Searched etsy & ebay, couldn't find anyone selling 3d printed adapters. So I had to make one myself.

First I found this "Power Tool Adapter" that has steps for 3 different sizes. Paid a little more getting it from HD online but at least I could return it in store if it wouldn't work out for me. Well none of the stepped sizes fit any of the dust ports on my power tools nor did it even fit the 2 MW attachments that came with my vac. Whatever, plan was to cut a taper in place of the steps anyway.

So this thing is meant to screw on the hose but the stock one is glued on so you have to cut it off. I wasn't sure if this thing was even gonna work & I didn't want to cut the stock one off in case it didn't. Plus this stupid piece of plastic cost me $17! Back to HD it went.

Found this 4 piece adapter kit at Lowes for $9. Except my local Lowes didn't have it in stock. But I did find the 2 pieces out of the kit that I wanted loose in the bin. Spoke to an employee & then customer service, they sold em to me for $4.50.

Cut out the middle section that I needed from the tapered adapter.

Glued it into the other adapter. Luckily I looked inside the stepped adapter & saw the #5 recycle sign which meant these are made of polypropylene. Mentioning in case anyone wants to do this, most common glues won't stick to PP, I was planning to just use epoxy. You'll need a glue that will bond to polypropylene or polyethylene.

Set up the compound slide on the lathe to match the MW nozzle taper.

Wish MW would have made it the "correct" size to begin with like everyone else so I didn't have to bother doing this! rant.gif
