Hello all

Just acquired a .981 round of Damascus I want to turn down into a ring, yes ring for a finger. Any suggestions would be helpful.

....oh yeah, will be using 1/2” c6 grade brazed carbides likely.

Machine is a little machine shop hi-torque 3540 8.5”x20”

Thanks in advance!
Matt

I turn 1" (or less) damascus rod between 600-980rpm and adjust according to the chip, cut, and feed. You should know though that all damascus is NOT created equally. The stuff from the big names (Vegas Forge, Nichols Damascus, etc) will be annealed and easy to work. The no-name (or foreign-sourced) stuff on ebay may or may not be annealed. I have some damascus from Pakistan that is so hard I actually can't cut it. This is definitely a case of either you get what you pay for, or you hopefully get lucky.

Creativechipper...........I will confirm when I get home but as far as I know non stainless plain carbon steel.

wildo...........I don't believe mine is annealed but I will dig into this further when I get home and verify, and thank you for the figures on rpm

I ran some 1" Philly steel damascus at about 500rpm on my Weiss 10x30

Worked well just used a lil cutting oil manually as I went.

I am about to attempt some stainless damascus, really hope its annealed well.
