We retired a very tired Colchester Student round top by taking our Jet BDB-1340A and making it the primary manual lathe. To replace it, we purchased a PM1228VF-LB, we are in a manufacturing situation but this lathe will not see a huge amount of heavy work. Last couple days with some time available, I finished installing a sliding shield and a lamp.

Next will be to modify the tumbler gear lever to be able to switch with no tools.

Interested to see how this performs for you. Sure is a nice looking machine.

It is a nice machine. I like the variable motor speed, like mine with VFD. I used it to make the stand offs. Just 3/4” Al rod! It held tolerance as expected. Operated smoothly once I had figured out it’s controls.

Who makes the shield? I’ve never seen one that slides like that.
