I had picked up this old 4x6 bandsaw sometime back minus the stand. It has a few other minor issues including a lost handwheel that I will correct along with doing a few common modifications. I hsd planned on building a stand, but came across this old Craftsman tool stand which I bought for the motor. Seems like it will be a good fit and these are well built. I plan on adding a chip pan that hangs from the top mounts and wiring in an oulet and switch. The photos should give you the before and after shots.

That is a much better stand than you find on most of the 4x6 bandsaws. I use a large paint roller pan to catch chips on mine, it is around 12x18", cheap and has worked well so far.

Made some more progress today. Mounted the saw using two pieces of 3/8-16 rod that passed through the base. Had to drill the holes out a bit for clearance. Rod is held in by nuts and lock washers. A simple U-bolt goes over the rod and straddles the cross supports on each end. I made an aluminum plate that acts like a washer to clamp it in place.

I also added a new handwheel, not sure what it came off of. I used a piece of 5/8 CRS to make an adapter and extend it out a bit so it didn't interfere with the stand.

Next was a new vise jaw which I made out of heavy angle iron. This has a 5/8-11 jack screw installed on the back end. I want to change the bolt to something more solid snd easier to tighten. The jack screw knob is off an old Craftsman model 80 table saw.

I than added a large aluminum pan to catch chips. The pan was a thrift store find, some kind of industrial cake pan perhaps. It sits on a shelf that hangs from the cross supports by 1/4 threaded rod. The shelf is adjustable so it can clamp the pan in place.

Here are a couple overall views. Will also be adding a lower shelf with some area to store extra stock and tooling. I also need to make a vertical table and wire in an outlet and switch to the stand. The blade also needs to be squared which will take a bit of time. The whole saw needs to be cleaned and lubricated before I will do much with it.

I like these stands. They are well made and very well designed.
