I recently picked up this Rusnok Model 70 head mounted to a Precision mill body.

My electrician buddy gave me a Dayton 3/4HP PMDC (model 1F796H) motor, which fits but needed the holes on the mill mounting plate drilled out to 3/8” and the extension of the motor shaft of about an inch.

I’m using the highest speed position of the pulleys, since I have a knob to control the speed. With that, I needed to know the speed, so I just built a simple magnetic speed indicator.

The plan is to install the magnet on the pulley screw. The meter also requires the magnet to be facing a specific North or South direction for it to work. I’ll mount up the RPM indicator box on the wall above the motor controller later and report back.

Cool- what does the analog meter on the mill do? Is it a volt meter? I see a knob also

None of the Precise controls work. The knob was for controlling the RPM on the original mill. The cords have been cut. There’s also some kind of fluid reservoir (I’m assuming for oil?) with a level sensor. The body of the Precise mill was used to hold the Rusnok head. The table is a 6x20” and has a addition flat surface at the front of the table with mounts for small round shafts.

I was reading up on Precise as well, seemed they made the first tool that functioned like a Dremel tool.

I would have loved to have seen the head on this one. I could not find pictures of this exact Precise mill anywhere.
 
I mounted everything up. I worry that when it goes over 5,000 RPM, the magnet starts to pulls off the 3M VHB double sided tape.

I’m contemplating milling a 1/2” relief into the pulley screw for the 12mm diameter magnet.

So, I didn’t dare run the mill with the pulley screw off, so I did the unthinkable… I chucked a 1/2” 90 degree 4 flute end mill on my drill press and put a shallow relief into the pulley screw. Now I don’t have to worry about the magnet hitting me in the face.

I spent the next few days tramming the mill table / vise once I received the 1/2” collet from Devlieg, as my tramming tool has a 1/2” shank.

Here’s the first thing I did with the mill. I put a thumb-hole in the razor blade holder of my Gerber EAB box cutter / money clip. With the thumb-hole, I can now flip that blade open as quickly as I can my Spyderco.

Used the Rusnok again for the lathe. Bought a used 4-jaw chuck that had the 1/4” holes on the jaw screws elongated. Bought a 5/16” square chuck key and milled down the square until it fits better than a new 1/4” key.

Still enjoying this little mill. Recently, I needed to move the mill to a slightly different position, so I had to mount the VFD control box and spindle speed display on the mill itself, rather than mounting it on a wall.
