New to me Takisawa TSL-1000 reconditioning

Maybe there were reliefs there that have now been worn away. I should post another photo of the underside now that it is clean. I pressure washed it and blew out all the oil passages. They were full of sludge.

There is a transition where you can see unworn scraping on the underside. This is on the V, near the headstock end (likely most worn). It is still quite minor though. Not even close to catching a nail. Maybe the saddle was rebuilt at some point without the bed being ground? That would be odd. I do like trying to unravel the mystery here.

It's possible that the carriage came from another machine- you never know
 
Indeed you could be right. The apron and saddle I believe were a matched pair. Would be odd if someone swapped an apron on with broken handles, but maybe that happened later. Hard to know! If only iron could talk :)
