Nice radius jig, an interesting solution.
To upgrade it instead of indexing it for the five grooves, you'd need to add some gears to rotate the knob as you swing it.

Conceptually, it could be done with two mating bevel gears. One fixed to the shaft that the gear mounts on with this shaft free to turn. The second bevel gear on the shaft that you manually rotate on, but fixed from rotating (perhaps pinned to the upright). The lead of the helix flutes would be determined by the tooth count of the two gears.

In practice, it can be complicated to make everything fit physically and give the helix angle you want.
