I have a 13" with a BXA but maybe it should be a CXA?

Will an eighth inch really change the rigidity that much?

Nice lathe BTW, can't wait to see some of the projects from it....
 
At the tool holders highest setting it was still an 1/8" under.
I didn't really wanna go down the shim path, I just want reliable and solid really.
I could have shimmed it but Shimming the tool post doesn't sound to me to be a solid idea.

You are a machine operator...

Do not put a shim under it...;-)

Make a stress spreading plate that goes between the top of the compound which may have a small surface area and the bottom of the tool post.

Make the shape of the bottom such that it matches the shape of the compound even have a male part that aligns with t slot.

This makes for a larger interface between tool post and compound and spreads the stresses out.

Done well then you can say it was done by design and not by mistake
