Well, that one is easy. They're not that old, and yes, they are easily modified to length and are very good alternatives to many common drive belts.

You just haven't quite caught up with the whirlwind yet, but that's one reason you are here.
 
I first saw the link type belts back in the early 80's, however I do not think the early one's were of the quality materials that they are made from now and certainly not as popular.
 
28 years is fairly good, and just think how long it would last if you bought one today?
 
I totally agree Bill, my point was that the advances in synthetic materials have vastly improved over the past 25 to 30 years and as long as a manufacture is using these "improved" materials with appreciable quality control they should produce even higher quality belts, hoses, etc today. The sad fact is that so many "improved" items have succumbed to the price war waged by cheaper alternatives and our sagging economy.
