So I decided to order a steam engine kit the other day......

And of course having used machines that felt a little, well not smooth, went to tearing things down to figure out where the problems were.
I’ve gone through the lathe, but not the mill (TWS MD 20).
Turns out I had some bearing issues and a real need to service the table.
The thrust bearings on both axis were trashed so I’m headed to the local bearing outfit to see if I can find what I need.
More pics to follow.

The steam engine is one I purchased from the web, it’s the steam launch engine.
One main reason I’m interested in this kit is that it offers a great manual for noobs. The experience gained here will no doubt sharpen my skills for what’s next.
And the icing on the cake is a dro for my mill. The dials on my machine read in odd thousandth increments so I decided a dro was really the only way to set this machine up to use.
I’ll post up pics of the process when I get the dro in a week or so.
