What would be a max DOC (roughing) with a 2" face mill with 6 inserts on aluminum?
Just curious as to what the opinions are.

EDIT: 4 inserts not 6.

I have a GMT 45 degree 2.5 w/5 inserts and have taken a cut right up to the edge of the inserts, which is .25 or .3".

Mill handled it fine. Me? I was dodging chips the size of my thumbnails.

I've only done it once, just to see if the mill would handle it. I normally don't push my machines that hard.

Here's my face mill. Bought it at an auction for a song. I don't think it was ever used. Inserts are hard to find.
Anyone else have one like this?

What are the inserts? They dont look real sharp for alum, but it just might be the picture. I use the APKT kind with good results

They're Seco ABER2606ZFFR M15.

It's pretty good in aluminum but I wouldn't say great.

I found that I have about 3 dozen of them, salvaged from light use. TiN coated, MIne have a hole in them, I'm trying to locate screws so I can make a small face mill with them. They've been used but show no wear.
