Got some actual machining time today. Rebuilding the quick attach for the bucket on an excavator. These arms don't have bushings some bored them out to go to an oversized pin. Already made bushings for the end of the boom.

Not a big deal but a friend of mine gave me a piece of Brazilian Walnut the other day. I had never heard of it so I wanted to see how it cut and finished.
Well keeping in line with the other boxes I made recently I looked around for a candidate to box up. My machinist square set was getting some rough treatment so they were chosen to protect them from any further damage.

I used floor wax for the finish and buffed to a nice shine.
Turned out well I think.

Thanks for looking

Maybe use a tap with the measured tpi as a gauge to verify?

I doubt such a tap exists, or at least isn't readily available. The threads are about 45mm diameter, maybe 1mm pitch or so. Almost certainly metric, everything on this lathe is except the leadscrew. My best guess is that the thread is for mounting a collet closer.

Play-Doh or some sort of wax seems like the best way to determine pitch.

If you start with a square piece of soft wood slightly longer in the diagonal than than the thread diameter, you should be able to thread it in.Then unthread it and measure pitch, possibly the diameter as well.

I see the the dreaded red x but I think it might be my computer since I'm having issues with it lately and have never had a problem seeing f350ca's posts before.

Made the hoops for the barrel, 1/2 inch banding silver soldered with a lap joint.

Greg

Looks great.
I wonder how some home brew would age in it and what it would taste like after?
But what are you going to do with it?
