I can give a bit more detail...... but I think all that's missing is that often the parts I need to pull have internal threads.

For all my current vehicles, the brake caliper brackets look basically like this:

Those two slider pins at the top are meant to mount the caliper so it can float.
Those slider pins/bolts in the brake bracket have an internal thread where the caliper bolts onto it.
When those sliders get moisture, road salt, and debris past the rubber boot, those pins no longer slide.
The caliper will not be floating and one brake pad will wear quickly and the other does nothing.
On my sons car, those slider pins are threaded M8x1.0mm (that's the one I needed to build)
On my truck, those slider pins are threaded M8x1.25mm (that one I already had on hand)

Since they have an internal threads those male-to-male threaded adapters allow me to attach the slide hammer and pull them out.

I suppose since the hammer has both male and female ends I could have simply welded a 1/2-13 nut to the head of the M8x1.0 or M8x1.25 bolts.
I guess my brain told me that I'd potentially get more threads engaged if I did it my way.
Since the threads are taking the hammer shock I went that route.

I could avoid it no longer, it was time to remove 67 years of built up grime from the SAG 14 saddle.

The underside was also caked in filth ugh!

After several days of doing battle I finished up this evening!! It's down to bare metal now. All the grinding marks are factory original.

The scraped ways are beautiful but my camera can't seem to get them into focus. Note the odd blurred patches :confused 3:

Scrubbing out the dark caves was NOT fun. I did find some scraping on the rear mounts under the crud, that was a nice surprise.

You were right, I see that E-stop on your carriage. I never knew. :laughing:
 
Have a need to put some beads on the end of some 1.5" aluminum tube. I've done this before by bolting a couple of washers onto the end of the bead roller, but it's tricky to keep the tube from wandering and get the washers centered on the clamping bolt to get a consistent bead. So, I whipped up a small diameter male die with a shoulder.

The shoulder is an ok back stop, but the steep angle on the die from the smaller diameter does make it try to bite the end of the tube a bit at the pinch point.
 
Rebuilding an inboard boat exhaust wet loop for a friend. The old one rusted thru and broke, must've been 304 so I made a new venturi and ordered new piping in 316 rated for saltwater immersion. Using Loctite stainless hi-temp pipe dope made of graphite to assemble. One setback, I ordered the wrong size pipe elbows ($240, d'oh) so I'm stuck waiting for the right ones to arrive.
