View media item 95672View media item 95671View media item 95670Here is a simple project that takes an hour or so to make and handy for power tapping in the mill.
Thanks to ABOM79 on You-Tube for giving me the idea. As a first attempt, I used a scrap of
mild steel for the project. The interior hole bored in the adapter meeds a fairly close fit but not too
difficult. I used just a drill to make the bore and the fit just happened to be perfect. A 5/8 inch
5c collet is what I ended up using for this size tap. The last operation is to make a slit along the
adapter so the collet will pinch the tap. It is an ideal way to make something useful if you are
looking for something to do. Taps come in many different diameters on the shank and also the
square part on top can be of different width. I plan to make several more of my commonly used
taps and go from there.
