So, it looks like parts for my Powermatic 87 20" vertical band saw are no longer available. I need to source a new blade tension spring. I have found similar springs for 14" bandsaws but not larger. I've looked at lee spring etc. but can't find compression springs with the rectangular wire cross-section. I assume that is needed to get enough force in the area available vs. round wire springs. I found some SPEC springs but the wire width is narrower and is not likely strong enough. I think I need about 2500 LB/Inch spring rate. Eg. 10000 PSI, 1" x 0.05" blade x 2 = 2000 Lb. 20000 PSI, 1/2" x 0.03" blade x 2 = 600 Lbs. There is 1/2" available travel.

There are no specs in the manual except it says "Baumbach No. S-62", Powermatic PN 6813061.

Measurements:
OD - 1"
ID - Must fit 0.50" shaft
Compressed length 2"
Uncompressed length 2.5"
Wire ~0.22" x 0.22" Square
Turns - 8 turns including ground, tapered ends.

Does anyone know where I can source such a spring?

Thank you Jim. I updated the specs. with some measurements just now. Had a look at the McMaster selection. Looks like the available springs there are not strong enough.

Would be glad to ship you one if/when I find them again. They are just sitting around ... somewhere.

[Edit] - Found them.
