Are Gorton Mastermills a good Mill? They look to be a Bridgeport type mill. I have a chance to buy a Gorton 1-22 Mastermill.

Every Gorton I've ever had experience with, were fantastic machines.

Each and every machine, will vary as far as make and quality, did you get your hands on it yet?

Try, before buying?

I own an early Gorton. She is a heavy, rock solid machine. The only drawback is the spindle taper. I understand later machines use a R8 collet, but early machines like mine use a GMT taper. The spindle may be reground to use R8 collets. I have no idea what that process would take or how much money that would cost. I got lucky and have most of the collets. Otherwise, it cuts great, very solid, and very accurate, and has some features that Bridgports and the like don't have.
