I needed a small pin spanner to take the compound apart on my Hercus lathe (same as SB9A). The fixed collar with the single index line next to the graduated dial turns counter-clockwise to unscrew. There is a single hole in the collar for the spanner pin to engage. None of my spanners were small enough - the collar is 1" in diameter.

I dug into my wrench drawer and found the item I remembered was there. A bit of drilling and a short piece of music wire and voila! The ugliest spanner you've ever seen. Worked perfectly. Turns out it fits the cross-slide as well.
