Quick change tool post

How much $ you want to spend ?

I have an Import wedge AXA with a bunch of import holders and 2 Aloris holders.
T-nut is machined to a SB9.

If money is tight you can make a Norman style QCTP and 15 to to 20 tool holders for under a $100. I made one for my lathe and lots of other forum members have also made them. Not hard to make.

Please know that you can make very nice affordable quick change tool posts and blocks to hold carbide cutters without dropping the big coin.

Contrary to popular opinion HSS in a lantern also work well.

Change gear lathes work just fine, also..........

Eh . Material costs . Tool costs . Time costs . Machine costs . Time is money , money is time , even for a hobbyest . Buy the import Jim offered up .

Yep, is gonna be difficult to beat that option. You can still make additional tool holders.

I have a small piston-style QCTP that was made by a co-worker in a machine shop back in the 1970's. It is smaller than an 0XA, and can use up to 3/8" square bits. It can handle anything my Atlas 10" QC42 can demand of it. I find that an AXA is in the way because of the size of both the post and the holders.

If I had to replace it, I would never use an AXA.

I have a Phase 2 (Import) QCTP on my South Bend 10", It works fine. I have an Aloris on my Clausing Colchester 13" It has a tighter feel when it locks up than the P2 but I couldn't say it's noticeably more accurate. However, the Aloris or Dorian QC tool holders have noticeably better fit and finish.

^^^This Exactly^^^
I have a Bostar AXA on my SB Heavy 10. It repeats perfectly. Not a smooth and sexy as an Aloris, not $600 either.
As for toolholders for these toolposts, you can't buy the raw material for the price of a finished holder.
