Not true, I made one as well using a TCMT insert and it works very well in soft materials like aluminum and steel as well, but that being said, the TPGB does work better as I made a second one with this insert.

The one I got uses TPGB321 inserts. Because the cutter is going round and round the inside of a fairly small radius, it needs a lot of relief behind the cutting edges. The inserts in your pics appear to not have enough relief. Lathe inserts will NOT work for rotating cutters doing inside work.

I bought one of Randy's cutters a couple of years back. Used it a couple of times, works great. Nice guy, I watch all of his Utube videos.
