Real old school

I remember those old overhead belt systems. Worked at a place that still used them to run 4 or 5 machines.

There is an old line shaft machine shop museum about 1 1/2hr drive from my place in Kinzers, PA.

They have an Annual Rough and Tumble event with blacksmith shop, the machine shop, many steam powered tractors, construction equipment and a steam powered museum. Highly recommended for a visit.

They did have a lathe which was not line shaft driven - an FE Reed foot powered lathe.

I got whacked in the gut (and other spots too) a bunch of times slipping the belts over the pulleys with a 2x4 and a rod stuck in the end to pick up the belt.

The Mifflenville buggy shop museum in Pa. also still has a overhead belt line shaft.
