Well folks, I made some chips (or something like that) tonight :)
I ground up a HSS tool and used it to fit the register for my 4-jaw chuck.

I covered my entire bench in plastic and made a hole for the headstock and carriage.
Really glad for the advice I received on that as wow, what a mess!

I turned the register to fit in place and then swapped it for the 3-jaw Chucked up the backplate using the register and then took some length off the spigot of the backing plate. It's not quite done yet as I ran out of steam and didn't want to make a mistake.

All in all I'm thrilled with my lathe!

Glad to hear that David. Tons of fun await you going forward

Nice, i'm glad to hear chips be flyin'

but, a word of caution...
the more chips you make, the more you wanna make chips - it a debilitating condition

Cast iron is messy. I like the way it turns your hands black and then washes off. I like giving the kids smudge marks with it.
Run it for months and you sweat rust and cough delicious iron n blow black out your nose. I know took months to go away I was afraid getting magnetized.
