Finally got it.
Bemnychree knows the owner of this shaper and B&S surface Grinder. He hooked me up. Thanks John!!
I’m posting the before pics.
The electric motor that came with it works great.
I’ll dismantle it, use electrolosis on the rust, clean, oil and reassemble.
I am looking forward to to having this in my tool inventory.72A82815-DF33-4F5A-97C3-D81320AF9398.jpegAD740706-6A0B-4097-B038-482A313FDC97.jpegB781D76D-5008-4884-AFAC-86EF3FA0213D.jpegE52ABCB4-2930-442F-8348-5D24C488DBFC.jpeg

You may find that a wire brush on some parts and a scraper on the ways parts may be a better idea than electrolysis. That is what I would do.

Jeff, will you mic the components and check clearances while it's apart. Won't be a better time.
Sweet purchase!

Electrolosis is the best for removing rust, white vinegar work great as well....

Might be the pic or my eyes, but doesn't appear to really be much in the way of real rust. I would follow Johns advice and just give it a good cleaning. Looks like a nice little machine. Mike

I did follow John's advice this morning.
I grabbed some WD-40 and a stainless brush. A little elbow grease proves to do the job quite nicely.
I am happy to find I do have the original stand (I downloaded the PDF from vintagemachinery.org)
I have the original vise also.
It looks like some babbit material in the casting where it was gouged. I think this will be up and operational by the weekend.
I'll keep track of my progress for those interested.

Mr. Brown,
I have used white vinegar in the past and yes it does remove rust.
Unfortunately it etches metal also. You need to be careful with it.

another method i use often is the application of phosphoric acid
sometimes i'll put it on a rag and buff the affected area
sometimes i'll soak steel wool with it and scrub away
as long as you wipe the part down with water and then re-oil, you are good to go

i have also soaked small parts directly in the phosphoric acid overnight , and it works very well.

phosphoric acid is only interested in rust, and is safe to use on iron and steel
you might not want to use phosphoric in the presence of aluminum (a vapor flammability condition can occur)

good luck and congrats on the shaper!!! :cool 2:

Yeah another shaper finds a home!

Wow, nice!! And that's not badly rusted, actually looks pretty good. And to get the vise with it too. I'm tempted to say that YOU SUCK!!
