Rhodes 7” Shaper

I don't know. I'll do the math before I fire it up to see what rpm this should run at.
While I'm on the subject??
You shaper guys know the best rpm to run on this type of machine tool?
Appreciate it.

The calculation for the surface speed and a table for recommended speeds is in Moltrecht's Machine Tool Handbook. It depends on the stroke and material, the longer the stroke, the higher the surface speed for a given RPM. I would recommend a range from about 50 to 150 or so for that size machine. The higher SPM for very short stroke cuts, otherwise it will want to walk across the floor.

I had some degreaser concentrate. Soaked the vise and box frame. Pulled it out of the soup this morning. Wow, decades of smooge came oozing off. Gave a quick brush and put in a bucket of rinse water for later today.
Once I get this back together today or tomorrow, I'm going to play with grinding a tool and making some chips :)IMG_3014.JPGIMG_3015.JPG

Going back together.
Chips?

Tomorrow maybe.
