Round spiral broaches?

I paid way too much for a box of assorted tooling at a garage sale, mostly to get the old mechanical test indicator in the box.

The lion's share of items in the box appear to be small round broaches, with spiral cut flutes almost like threads. They're NOT threads as the profiles are more like the teeth on a file. Diameters are < 3/8", and there are a bunch of them.

There are several other tools which are clearly broaches, for cutting keyways in small holes, which is why I think these are also some sort of broach.

Any idea what these things would be for? I can try to post some pics later if that may help.

Can't imagine a round broach, that's what a drill bit does. could it be square and starts off round?

No, they are round from end to end. There are dozens of them in this box ranging from ~1/8" to 3/8" in diameter.

What's also weird is they don't taper like a broach either.

I thought maybe power filer, but there is no shank for a power filer to grip.
