I purchased a 3" shell mill.
45 degree cutters., 5 inserts.

I tried to look the RPM up on the internet and got everything from 127 RPM to 12,000 Rpm.

I am cutting 1018 CRS
I have a medium sized mill.
I think it is 3 hp on 220 volts
R8 adapter
ZP25-048 Insets.
Any ideas on RPM and feed?

Thank you,
Dale

This has proven to be an excellent reference:

It'll get you in the ballpark for a manual hobby machine and you can fine tune from there.

Thanks for the replies.

I am still messing with it.

I don't know the feed rate yet. Mine has a rheostat so I don't know what feed rate is.
I have a tachometer coming to try.

The part gets hot. CRS.
I don't have coolant but I have air.
It still get hot even with air.

The only expenance I have with face mills are the 14" HSS on cast iron die bottoms..

The idea is to run the face mill agressively as possible to throw most of the heat into the chips, but for a low power machine, that may not be possible to the high extent.
