Separating series 1, 2J2 head into 2 sections

I said that in post 107. but I didn't know the bondo was oil saturated until I sanded the paint off. why would I blast off all the body filler and have to redo it if I didn't know it was full of oil?
no way to know ahead of time but wishing you knew then what you know now is a national past time lol.
not a serious comment in the first place.
most all of the old mills are saturated with oil and blasting or a needle file are the only good solutions, stripers tend to get stuck in the casting and cause issues with the new paint.
I have some experience with the same issue on cars with bondo and the use of silicon waxs. once a pin hole gets into the paint the wax soaks in and is insidious.

hello. I freaking broke something inside the quill housing section of the head the other day and my power down feed is no longer working. I need to get into the quill housing and I'm hoping I can remove the upper half of the head, the part inside the aluminum vari-speed housing from the quill housing without disassembling all the parts inside the aluminum vari-speed upper section. I haven't found any vids of anyone doing this without disassembly of the top half, but I did find this vid of a guy putting the top half together into one-piece separate from the quill housing so I'm thinking it's doable. there is nothing wrong with the upper half of the head, it runs smoothly and quietly so would prefer to not disassemble that part.

so, I'm hoping I can just unbolt the top half of the 2J2 head and pull it off of the quill housing in one piece. yay or nay? thanks.

Don't know if ya got it fixed or not, but a GREAT place for parts and/or repair is
Google H&W Machine Repair and rebuilding

he has already bought and received parts from H&W
several times. parts and tools. they are great people. I spoke with Barry on the phone about the meters in my Bijor one shot oiler a couple of days ago. thanked him for all he does for the BP community with his instructional video and keeping parts in stock.

this is going to be a ***** to sand down. got to get it outside again tomorrow to sand it as the dust is out of control. it's a bear to move around, esp on the slope of my concrete apron.

I dealt with Randy and Carrie, both great to deal with, they know exactly what part you need and where to get it even if it in not on their shelve, Randy hooked me up with ball screws for my eztrak, the price was better than any other place that i could find. they also have some used parts if you need them (by used the parts i received looked new just were not in an oem box). i bought everything to fix my eztrak from them except for a used y drive motor housing that i lucked into on ebay for dirt cheap.

love the 2 tone bondo work lol.
looks great or will when you are done.
one thing i learned was to build a pallet and lag screw the base into in for moving around the shop with my pallet jack, a lot easier if you do not have a load swinging in the air wile moving it.
the wider base makes it more stable and the 4x4 runners never need to be more than 1/2" off the ground so not enough room to tip over.
the only issue with pallets is that anytime you drop something it immediately goes under the pallet and to the exact center of the pallet requiring me to get on the floor to fish it out.

I don't have a pallet jack and don't want one in my shop. this is working fine. took it outside again this morning and ground off all the excess body filler. have to drive to the next town to get the finishing putty.

took a couple of days off the project. hung out with my son on Sunday and sold my other mill on Monday. got some primer on the column today. took a lot of body filler and glazing putty. and sanding, sanding, sanding.
