I have a box of servo stepper motors, probably 20 or so pcs.

What sort of things can be done with these? I dont have a mill but I do have a small 8x30 lathe.

Let me know what ya think of,,thanks

I can't really tell what size they are, but it looks like the would make good axis motors if you wanted to CNC your lathe.

OK, the 1.5x1.5 are NEMA 23, the 3.5x3.5 are NEMA 34. The NEMA 23 motors should have a 2.25'' mounting flange and the NEMA 34 should have a 3.39'' mount flange. If you have any that are 1.67'' mount flange than those are NEMA 17, and are too small for anything except a 3D printer or laser. The NEMA 23 should have a 1/4'' shaft, and the NEMA 34 should have a 1/2'' shaft.

I would use the NEMA 34 motors for axis motors on a lathe.

Ok, good info Jim!!

I looked up a smaller one and it was a Nema 17. I will check shaft size and see what I have.

I should have enough to share if someone would need a couple. I could use some plans or ideas on how to mount them up.

thanks

Mounts are standard, so pre made brackets are commonly available as are the specs. They are usually face mounted, pretty simple. The shafts are usually easy to use with flex couplers and there are usually gears and belt pulleys that fit right up.

I could probably use a couple of the larger units if you're offering. Want to fiddle with the lathe lead screw and rotary table.

Looks like the bigger ones are Nema 23
KH56km2u121 is the number on some.

Servos are about the cheapest part of a CNC conversion...

If you have some of the NEMA 23 motors left I have a project they would be great for. I'm slowly making progress on my home made mill-drill and am definitely gonna make it CNC. PM me if you can help out.

Thanks,

John
