My friend Mark Jacobs (@mksj) gave us a heads-up on the new Shars ER40 collet chuck a couple of months ago in this thread.

I bought the chuck and adapter plate from Shars and installed it on my PM1340GT. I thought I would share some detail via photos, video, and PDF here for others who may want a setup for their lathe.

A few chatter marks at the end of the threads. Yes this bothers us perfectionists and I will likely skin those off there soon.

Trued up and ready for next steps

I have also attached a PDF delineating some detail on machining the adapter plate.

Hope this helps others considering this purchase and adaptation to your your equipment.

Nicely done Alan, came out surprisingly accurate and simple solution to the TIR error commonly seen in the non-adjustable ER chucks.

I put one on my PM1127 and have been very happy with it. Easy to adjust, accurate, repeatable. I'm glad to hear I didn't just get the one decent one they had. :)
