My PM-833T mill came with a shell arbor. It has a 1" diameter shaft for the shell to slip on. When I ordered a 2 1/4" shell mill from MSC Direct, I could find no mention of shaft length options. I assumed the length was a standard.
When my shell end mill arrived, the shaft was about 1/8" too long. This meant the retaining screw and washer wouldn't secure the shell.
I tried to turn it down but the carbide tool would only remove about two thousands a pass.
I marked a ring on the shaft with the lathe cutting tool at the depth I wanted to remove. I used my KMG belt grinder with a 50 grit belt to grind it down.
The grinder made short work of the job. I then trued the end in the lathe.
That solved the problem. I was surprised the arbor was too long. Does anyone know if there are different length options?
