This entire project was made from all free and salvaged wood. Maple or birch plywood cut into 12" squares and curly maple face trim to cover the edges of the plywood. No fancy joinery here, just a quick project to fill a need in our home.

Made a bunch of these, just glued and brad nailed.

The figure in the maple looks nice with a finish on it.

Gives a nice place by the side door to take off your shoes, and a place for gloves too.

Not bad for free wood I think.
 
I've done something similar for welding helmets, with a door to keep the dust out, mine's not as nice as your's , it's made out of CDX. Nice Job.
