Here is our old Barnes lathe. 18" swing circa 1918. We stripped it down once and replaced the headstock bushings as well as the apron bushings. There is a splined knob that pulls in and out to engage the longitudinal feed. Several teeth had been broken off and we had a friend make me a new one. I have added two new chucks and an Aloris quick change to it as well as several live centers. It came with a huge face plate as well as a steady rest which I have used quite a few times. There is a picture of my Studebaker crankshaft in it. The area where the rear seal rode on had been badly pitted so to repair it I used a parting tool and reduced the diameter slightly, about 1/16" and built it up with JBWeld and then brought it back to spec. and finished it with some 400 grit paper wrapped around a square file. As you can see it also got a paint job.
Still use it for jobs too big for my 9A SB.

Looks a lot like my Model W Monarch, Reds. I should take a picture, but this will have to do for now:

I got this Prentise Bros. treadle lathe, a few years ago. It had been in one family for 4 generations. I bought it from the 4th owner. It is complete with various chuck, steady rest, face plate, change gears and a lot of vintage tooling. I do not intend to restore but hope to clean it up and preserve it some day.

Charlie, how are you coming on the clean up?

The seller built a power unit for it, when he was in high school, back in the 1950's The power unit stands behind the hearstock and bolts to the back of the lathe using 2 of the existing factory holes.

Here is some of the tooling that came with it.
