Sieg x2/clone tilt column support bracket alternative.

Great idea. Would you post another picture showing the part number clear? Thanks for finding that out

By doing this modification I assume that you loose the ability to tilt the column, Correct?

Have you tried measuring the difference with an indicator?

I havent had time to do any milling yet but I'll report how it does. Yes, it takes away the tilt feature but I'm almost finished building my rotary tilt mill vice. Ive read that the weak spot in the column from the way it attaches to base is an issue and they sell a kit to attach it solid to the mill base. Another thing is a lot of people fill the column with various compounds to add rigidity, which I'm thinking is accomplished by securing the column to the mill stand as opposed to the mill base.

Locating your work with a tilted column is a nightmare. You pretty much have to use a tooling part installed a a known location, pick it up with a edge finder, and use trig to get the X location based on the tilt angle, the height of the ball's center, and the ball's radius.
