Skinny tire bike build, 10 speed

Nice job Greg , bike building and riding are a hobby for me too . A lot cheaper than restoring a car haha . If you or anyone for that matter would like to see some of my bikes , they are here just type markwesti in the search bar . https://www.pedalroom.com/

Bike looks great.
There is One thing I would like to state that could be problematic in the near future in case you are not aware.....Eventhough Glass Bead blasting does a decent job at stripping paint it is not the best medium to use when the project calls for painting and or powder coating.
The Glass Beads leave behind a smooth dimpled surface finish that can prove difficult for the paint/powder coating to adhere to long term!

I agree with that, I only glass bead parts that are going to be painted or just left raw like aluminum parts. The powdercoater that I use sandblast everything.

So with all the clean out of the holes in the frame I did a little accent painting. The black came out good, but the red not so much. I had the wrong brush, and shakey hands, lol. But I'll live with it. Even though the red didn't come out as nice as I envisioned it ties everything together as you see, I have new decals for the frame and they are red too.

Now the frame is done it's time for some assembly. This is the fun part for me, after all the waiting for the frame to come back from PC, and all the work of cleaning all the parts, and saving money to buy new parts, this is when it all comes together. The first part to go on was the Schwinn headbadge. The original one was in bad shape so I used a better looking newer badge that I had. Double sided tape was applied to the back and then trimmed off with a razor blade.20181215_103009.jpg20181215_103632.jpg
With the badge on you can see how the red all ties together.

Next I set the bearing cups for the headset, packed the bearings in fresh grease, and installed the fork, front brake cable hanger, and shifters.

Next was the crank and sprocket assembly. New bearings where packed in grease, and the threads in the frame where greased, then the bearing cups where threaded in and adjusted before the lock ring was set. It spins very nice. I also installed the new Shimano front derailer and kickstand.

Next was the new Shimano rear derailer. And I installed the new qr alloy wheel assemblies with new gumwall tires and new tubes.
This is a new style derailer that mounts to a hanger tab on new bikes, mine didnt have that so I used a bolt on hanger tab, works just fine and gives me better choices for derailers.

Starting to look like a bike now.

Next was the brakes, cleaned and lubed the original Dia-compe centerpull brake assemblies, installed new brake pads on them as well. I also cleaned and installed the reflector brackets with them.

Rear brake.

And this sticker was on the bike from the factory. a little hard to find but I found one on Ebay.

Next I installed the original alloy handlebars.

Then the seat, rear rat trap rack with a new chrome seat clamp bolt.

This is an original Schwinn accessory rack, has Schwinn cast into it and a rear reflector built into it.

It's the correct rack for a large frame bike with the up turned front so that the rack sits level. Mine won't sit level because I opted to keep the rear reflector and bracket on the bike because it is original to it. I'll just have 2 rear reflectors, lol.
