Almost ready for paint is my newest acquisition - a Van Norman Slotter. Best I can tell there are 2 sizes that were offered. The difference being in whether it was made to receive 1/2" or 5/8" slotting tools. Having said that, a prospective buyer still needs to be aware of the mount portion & whether it will fit your mill or not. My slotter is the larger size - but with a mount for a no22 (same as my hi speed subhead). It came with an adaptor that fits it to the 24 & up sizes & a drive that fits a 1 - 1/4 tool holder. I found a 1 - 1/4 tool holder for a good price. Here is the drive & holder joined.

Well, the shoulder is too thick for the adaptor. Here is the adaptor all cleaned up.

I'm just about ready for paint. Since I'm on night shift in a few hours, I'll leave these pics for now.

Paint! Well, humble beginnings. Still lots left to do to get it ready.

I coated all the bare surfaces in axle grease & fitted the ram in the slide. Before connecting the ram to the cam or even adding the gib adjustment screws, I worked the ram back & forth. Somehow it is tighter with hard spots. Getting close though.

The last pic in the previous post shows where 4 gib adjusters go + 2 gib locator pins. Those pins were the cause of my tightness as they were in too far. All adjusted now & working!

The hole in the mount should be at the top. There is a brass sleeve in it. I'll need to get a replacement oiler for it. What are the ones with the spring loaded caps called?

Mounted the adaptor to the mill spindle (it's upside down). Just needing measurements for now anyway. I have to make a 7/16 x 14 grub screw as the 4th mount. Finding the right NMTB 50 x 1 1/4 tool holder for cheap could be a challenge as the shoulder has to be less than 5/8 thick.

Yes Cal, this slotter does have a couple of intact 'ball oilers'; but, they are not brass. I don't like ball oilers, generally speaking. Perhaps it is because the Grizzly's, MCS etc don't know how to stock an oil can (dispenser?) that actually works. I now have a collection of old Eagles that do the job admirably! But, what I want in this vertical spot is an 'oil cup' with the spring loaded cover. Sorry, I didn't know how to ask. McMaster carries these too! Now to remove the broken brass sleeve (of the original oiler) & see what threads are there. I actually expected a press fit based on the thin wall section of the oiler remains.

I've noticed few of these from Van Norman for the smaller mills that have a bracket or cover mounted to the top. Mine has no provision for it. Would it be beneficial to add 1?
