Does anyone have or have used the 409 mill? I am considering the Smithy Granite IMax 3 in 1 but, if I did not go that route I am considering the Smithy 409 mil and a Grizzly G0750 lathe. As I have indicted I have a special built in my garage but, it is only 8' x 10'. I think I can go with either the combination or individual machines.

I don't have any experience with the Smithy mill. Looking at the specifications a couple of things caught my eye. The X & Y axis power feed is a nice feature but the 6-3/8" Y travel is disappointing for a machine of this size. The max spindle speed of 1500 is less than most machines in this class.

Take a look at the Precision Mathews PM-940M http://www.machinetoolonline.com/PM-940M.html

Also compare the G0750 to the PM-1236 http://www.machinetoolonline.com/PM1236.html

Good luck

Thanks for the information. I think both the mill and the lathe look great. You're right about the Smithy Y axis travel when you compare it to the PM. Now it is coming upon decision time.

I mention the Precision Mathews machines because there is a good number of PM machine owners here on this board. Matt, the owner, at Precision Mathews has an excellent reputation for customer support and he cares about what he sells. He also follows the forums here and will jump in or provide information when needed. I own three machines from him and would't hesitate to buy another.

Wow, that is a great testimony for Precision Mathews. Since I live in Ohio I drove over to their facility and looked at several of their machines. Good quality machines! I am considering them and they have indicated their mills will be in stock in a couple of weeks. Right now they are pretty much out of stock unless I do not want power feed, which of course I do.
