Hi, Just got through rehabbing a SB shaper I picked up. I ran it for about an hour and half not cutting, waiting for oil to come up. No oil. How long does it take to prime itself or do I have to prime it somehow?

Mine primed itself but when I got it and drained the old oil it looked almost new so I can only assume the previous owner changed it often. I did end up actually turning down the flow a bit because it was making a big mess.

I assume you have a copy of the South Bend "How To Run A Metal Shaper" if not you can down load a PDF here:

From the SB How To Run A Metal Shaper:

At least one of those manuals has a good pic of the oil distribution block and lines (I think its the Army manual). You should always see oil dripping from the two tubes inside. The adjustment is to control the flow to the upper gibs.

Thanks again for the info. I discovered that the spring was missing in the relief valve. I put one in and I felt like Jed Clampit, oil everywhere. Had to cut down the flow with the adjustment screws. It's all set now.
