Stumbled upon this video and felt those interested in using carbide would benefit. The video is very long (90 minutes) but it gives great insight about how different styles of carbide cutters work with many common types of metal. Lot's of good information about chip control too. The lathe is very big but, the concepts are identical to any machine rigid enough to handle carbide.

Grab some popcorn and a good cup of coffee -and enjoy.

Just started re-researching this topic

I seem to go in waves of lathe work or, mill work, or welding, or CAD work etc -and each time I switch from one to another, there's a re-familiarization process. On the positive side, each time one of these cycles goes by, I seem to get overall better playing the game.

Anyhow, there's an awful lot of truth spoken in that video. It's a nice, friendly and informative BS session for sure.

Take Care
