Square broach 4sale but I don't understand.

The pilot is always bigger on a square broach. You are only cutting the square corners, not the whole square. You would break the broach otherwise.

If an actual square multiply the side length by the square root of 2, this gives the distance across the "sharp corners", you are using a cutting tool so there are no sharp corners.
 
Thanks, from the looks of it, the pilot looked smaller than the square. Looks can be deceiving.
