Starrett wooden tool box

Beautiful ! That is one Good Neighbor. It also says a lot about you, in that he has entrusted you to be the next caretaker of that tool chest. Now, you just need to make sure that the next caretaker is chosen carefully when the time comes.

Strange that you say that. I was thinking about that this morning.
I thought about this some more today. He has a Grandson whom he relates to. I will tell him when the time comes I will give the box and contents to his grandson so it will come back to the family.

Nothing significant. A drawer of objects. Who knows what they were intended for. He worked in a machine shop making parts for aerospace, something to do with controlling explosive charges. Long time ago.

Today was pretty amazing. My friend/neighbor has been anxiously watching me restore a South Bend lathe. He has many stories of being a machinist in the 50's and 60's.
Today he gifted me a beautiful Gerstner/Starrett machinist tool box. I have dated it between 1942-1948. Every drawer full of tools. Many of the tools are Starrett. One drawer still had some coins in the back all from the 40's haha. I'm feeling pretty grateful.

These chests were made by Gerstner from 1958 to 1973. Most do not have any Gerstner markings on them, but 1 of 2 that I have, has Gerstner marked latches.
