Steady/Following rest - left handed threads?

My PM 1236T arrived yesterday and I am unpacking & cleaning. I notice that to close the steady rest and following rest around a piece of work, I have to turn the nut counter clockwise.

Must be a reason but I can't think of it. I know you fellas will know and some grizzled old timer will probably pipe in pretty quickly. :grin:

It isn't a left hand thread. The screen is just stationary instead of the thread. Just think of unscrewing a bolt but instead of the bolt coming out towards you, the nut (steady rest finger) is unscrewing itself closer to the workpiece.
