I notice at the base of the column on my LMS 5550 mill (Sieg X2.7), between the two M10x40 bolts on each side, there's a taper pin listed as having an internal thread of 6x24:

Just wondering what the function of these pins is. Attachment point for something (accessories)? Any role in, say, tramming?

Thanks. I'd think that the four bolts would set the column's position pretty specifically. Would the pins' main role be during the manufacturing process?

No. Bolts do not provide precise alignment. The boots have a little play - they have to or they would not turn. The machine is aligned at the factory, then the taper pin holds are drilled And reamed. The pins ensure you can disassemble/ reassemble the machine correctly in the future. The pins will also ensure that fit cannot shift.
