Threading Tool In Chuck ?

Have been pondering this for a while.

Would there ever be any circumstances when a thread cutting tap would be mounted in the chuck and the workpiece mounted on the cross slide ?

I've done it the other way with the tap in the tailstock and the workpiece in the chuck and turned the chuck by hand.

Sounds like your thinking outside the box Bill, that's a good thing. I think that at some point someone may have held a tap in a collet to thread a hole in a part held in/on the cross slide. I would think the chuck was had powered and not motor powered in this instance.
