Does anyone know what kind of toolpost this is?
(sorry for the pixelated image...)

I found a post on another forum calling it a Hardinge D-9 tool post. I think (think being the operative word) they may have been made by Empire but sold or provided by Hardinge. Use may have been for a rear-mount post rather than a front mount.

Regardless, it is an intriguing design I have a hankering to try to make -- I prefer to use a solid block toolpost style rather than the QC style all that's all the rage.

Here's a pic of what was described as the D-9

Thanks Frank,
I think that’s exactly the type.
Is the premise that you slack the cap screws to change the bit and adjust height using the wedge?

I wonder if they are they still available.

I don't know, but anything even remotely connected to Hardinge is going to run high dollar...

Just found one for $100 USD

Probably because there is very little demand for them.

It looks like the caps screws are the adjustment for height and the
wedge locks everything together. Which means, every time you change
tools you'll be checking your adjustment.

There's a reason why QCTP's are as popular as they are.

No, this not so, the wedge adjust height and the setscrews tighten the holder into the block, this is a typical turret lathe item, Empire made parting tool holders also.
