My wife and I spent the weekend in Nevada City, Ca.
I love museums of any kind. We stopped by the Nevada City Train Museum.
I found their shop! I spoke to one of the volunteers and he gave me a tour.
They had a huge Monarch lathe made in 1906, A Bridgeport mill, later model than mine.
I found a new project, they made a forge to heat up steel lengths for bending in a press.
Check out the simplicity.

It is very similar to the one I built for myself, I have since built a blown twin burner for it, one hot mutha !!

I don’t see any valves, defusers or regulators on the torches.
Just flexible hose and pipe fittings. I guess if you have escaping gas and light it you have your heat source.
Am I missing anything in those torches?

In the big coupling on the ends there should be some kind of defusser, a pair actually there used to regulate the flame . They will work without them but your flames and gas consumption will be wild. It also helps against flash back.

I have one of those burners, It will produce the heat. A fine hole drilled in a piece of pipe then drill a hole in the reducer for that pipe, The most fun is lining up the gas flow and getting it held in place. You can put flares on the other end of the small pipe but do not have to. Use one like that for melting AL, Brass etc. It will also get 1" round bar hot enough to sag. (got it a little to hot)

OK, I plan on making this. When you guys talk about defussers and pin holes, lining up flame? Is there any diagrams out there describing the torches? I want to get this right the first time.
Thank you for your help!!

Put this single burner one together a while ago, I used a .035 mig tip

Lots of info out there on how to make them , mostly on knife forums

Look up Zoeller forge, there is a lot of how to info on burners and forges as well as part sales .
There are many other sites on the subject as well, you might also try looking for local Black smithing clubs......

I used 1/8 pipe threaded on both ends, Then used some fine drills to drill out the jet on it. Where it would be centered on the output pipe.
Then drilled a hole in the Coupler large end where the 1/8th pipe would just fit through it. THen drilled and taped the edge where I could use a set screw to hold it where I needed it. Also that allowed me to remove and adjust the hole size if needed. screwed in the 8 inch piece of pipe,
then hooked up to a propane tank and line up the hole best I could. you can finish lining it up after you lite it up and adjust to get the best output. LIke was said there are many diff ones, and how to build them. I have also built another one that is more complicated from one of the drawings here on the site. New computer so no pics of it.
