Try this in your home shop

Glad I'm not driving whatever vehicle that thing is going back into.

...and so glad I don't own or have to use or repair that lathe after they hammer on the work so hard and weld with the return current going thru the headstock bearings!

I undersatnd getting the job done, but not at the expense of the tools that make your livelihood!

Come on, we all know real men just chuck the axle up in their lathe.


Not sure if it is the same company, but I watched a similar axle tube boring process at a trucking company I worked for about 15 years ago. IIRC, they had to advance the cutting tool by hand.
that's insane. notice how high the cutter is in the lathe around the 17:00 minute mark... slightly before. above center.
those tools are shot, but they make them work. No safety glasses on the long haired guy in the beginning, nor the guy that turns it on and off.
long flowing clothes... Holy cow.. But they got it done.
