I am going to try and fit this cross slide to the apron on this new to me 13x40 enco the cross slide was milled and turcite installed to make up for the material loss. A couple of questions. #1. do I scrape the turcite and mill a oil groove? Or just mill oil groove. #2. can I install turcite on the gib.

Yea he talked about milling a oil groove and not going through the turcite. I was just wondering if I had time scrape the turcite also. If so i will wait to use flat reference plate from someone. No big deal I'm having fun going through the lathe.

Turcite is self lubricating but ir wears longer with oil. Cutting oil groves - you have to make sure they are never open to air as they will drain the oil. Im not sure what your cross-slide sets on. But check max travel and be surethe slide doesn't move out past the end and open to the air. If you scrape it sharpen your blade to a neg 20 rake / 40 Rand don't use a blade wider then 3/4" if your push scraping. If your pull scraping use a 5 neg rake and 40 R blade. Turcite depth of scrape should be approx. .002". don't cut or mill a straight oil grove, cut zig zag or diagonal. relieve the center 40% about .0005" so you know it isn't high in the middle. I could write more, but I have to get to work. One more thing..yes you can put turcite on the wear side of the gib. I would scrape the flats first at the more you scrape the flats the opening of the dove gets wider.

it means HM wants to send you notifications for anything HM deems necessary,
whether you want or need the information and alerts, or not.
if you opt in, by giving permission, the alerts and notifications will start
if you remain opt'd out, the alerts and notifications can't be delivered and life stays the same,
except for the notification at the bottom of your screen that will stay there until you opt out
even then, the push notification banner will show up again, even if you ask to never be asked again.
