I needed to make some small threaded pins today. Nothing critical, about 4mm / 5/32" diameter. I searched and searched, and was just about to give up and order something. Then it came to me.

Neat idea. How straight were they? Did you hold them in a collet?

Not as straight as I would have thought, but straight enough. Explains the tendency to bend. Yes, I happen to have a 5/32 collet.

your nail pins came out great!!

I’m all for using what is laying around=free
I made some rings out of a piece of black pipe. .125” wide.
This stuff is strange. Parting off produced blue chips. It’s pretty hard stuff.

I used some tie rod material for machinists jacks.
Kind of gummy.

I find myself using pipe frequently too. It's inconsistent stuff, usually impossible to get a decent finish.

In general, it irks me how cheaply you can buy a manufactured item and how expensive it is to buy the raw material for the same thing.

I always bring home scrap parts from work and eventually find some use for it.

I miss this source of material. Scraps, saw drops, even whole bars. I used to be able to order whatever I needed and the company paid for it. Retirement has its downsides, but still worth it.

I have so much plastic than i know what to do with half the time.
