Useful Features for Bench Block?

A few years back, I found a weird piece of steel in a warehouse a tenant had abandoned. It had three holes in it, plus a strange wedge-shaped projection on top. I never found out what it was for. I decided to put some features in it and use it for a bench block. It also seems to have had another piece of steel pressed into it with a fit so close I can't see any gap. I don't think I can harden it; I assume it's mild steel. Still, it should be useful. I would say it's 4.5" long.

I'm wondering if there are any clever features I should put in it which are not found in store-bought blocks. All I have right now are a groove and three preexisting holes. I also milled the projection off.

These sound like good ideas, although there aren't a lot of those clamps for sale a la carte!

Add a vee on the ends two sizes , clamp holes there too. Different size holes for different pin sizes.
