Using a thread cutting tap in a milling machine

my Jet drill press, has a tapping feature, it has an adjustable end switch, used to set the tap depth, when trippped, auto reverses the spindle, when the handle goes all the way back up, it hit an another switch, which again reverses (back to the original direction) the spindle.

Tx for the reply
I have almost no tool ATM, just a few small milling bits and a face cutter
Plus a block of brass,
Hopefully by the end of January I should be tooled up from eBay
I only got a limited number of collet chucks, not a full set
Unfortunately there was no spanner in the box for the collets,
I found the spanner today hidden in another box
So will take your advice on using the collet chuck for holding the mill cutters

Still don't understand the tap switch
It does not seen to do anything
I tap a hole with an M12 today successfully
Wiring diagram is poor, so no clues
Manual is even worse

Cheers Nick
Nick,
Please, send us more pictures if you can, close-ups of the head, quill handles, schematic, etc.

Hi Guys
I finally sorted out the problem
In Tap mode, The quill has to come down 11cm before the depth gauge (on the front) touches a micro switch and changes the rotation from CW to ACW.
I can manually bring down the depth stop so the quill has only a short travel before hitting the micro switch
The idea is good but not very well exicuted by the manufacturer

In drill mode, the micro switch does not operate

Nearly got the machine on the floor, I was pleased no health and safety we watching me jack the machine from side to side and try and cut the woodern pallet of the bottom

Tx for everyone's in put
Nick
